Hello World. It's Me, Sarah

It was a public holiday recently so my sister, who has been visiting, and I headed out west to the Kooroomba Vineyard and Lavender Farm.

Kooroomba is located approximately an hour & half South West from Brisbane City (depending on the day and traffic, or if you get lost because you took a wrong turn!) and is in what is called the ‘Scenic Rim‘ area of South East Queensland.

It was the wrong season to see the vineyard in action but along with the lavender farm, Kooroomba also have a restaurant and bistro area plus of course you can sample some of the local wines and there is also a small gift shop with some lavender products.

One the grounds there is also a cute little chapel and the farm is often closed to the public for weddings. The church is quite unique in that it doesn’t actually have proper walls – tho it does have a glass door which I am assuming is just for aesthetics.

After we had gone for a wander through the lavender we headed to the bistro area – I had tried to get a booking at the restaurant however it was fully booked due to a couple of bus loads of local rest home inhabitants. But because of the time we finally got around to having something to eat we did actually manage to score a seat in the restaurant after all. The outdoor bistro area had also been full when we headed in for food but it is a lovely undercover area with stunning views over the farm and vineyard.

We settled on the lavender scones with cream and the farm’s own special jam and as we were stilling waiting for the scones, we decided to be extra naughty and get the lavender ice cream to share. Personally I preferred the scones – which were warm, light and airy and, quite frankly, bloody delicious!

Over all the day was really good. The weather was nice and I was quite surprised that there weren’t as many people as I thought there would be given it was a public holiday in Brisbane.

It was a nice day for a drive in the country, though I am really kind of bad because if I have the destination in mind I find it hard to do detours. I need to take my time in the future and actually stop off in places of interest – I did stop on the way back because we passed an old abandoned service station so I had to turn around and go back for photos!

In summary, Kooroomba Vineyard and Lavender Farm was a great day out with yummy food, friendly & helpful staff and a stunning location. Definitely worth the visit if you find yourself in the area.

P.S it is all looking a bit dry as there is currently a drought happening in rural Australia.
