The Ultimate Travel Questionnaire

I have scoured the world-wide web in search of travel specific questions and have put together some questions in case you want to know more about me and my travels.

This is not a tag post but if you feel like posting your own answers, put a ping back to this post so I can check out what you have to say 🙂

What was the last country you visited?
New Zealand – yes it’s technically my home country but I did have to use my passport to get there so it totally counts

Where was your first plane to?
Domestically it would have been Christchurch to Auckland. Internationally it would have been Christchurch to Melbourne even it was only a transit before I headed to Tasmania

Flying

How many countries have you visited?
14

Which destination is the number one of your bucket list?
Petra or Malta – both for very different reasons

What is your favourite place on the planet that you have been to?
Greenwich, London – this place really captured my heart. I can’t go to London without heading to Greenwich as well

Favourite place in your home country?
I know I should say Christchurch, but it would actually have to be Lake Tekapo – I seriously LOVE that place!

If you could board a plane right now, where would you go?
I’m going to surprise everyone and say South Africa – there is just so much in that country that I want to do & I’ve been thinking about going for a while now

Tropical island getaway, snowy ski break or city exploring trips?
City exploring trips – maybe throw in a bit of countryside too

Amsterdam
Cities like Amsterdam are the reason I prefer a more urban destination

What are your top 3 hand-luggage must haves?
Camera, phone, change of clothes (just in case the checked luggage is lost)

Any travel tips to share?
Read the signs, listen to tour guides, don’t be a twat!

Most embarrassing moment abroad.
Falling over in front of the NYPD & FDNY on Thanksgiving

Biggest disappointment?
Paris – I really expected to love it but I just didn’t

Nicest surprise?
Copenhagen – I really expected to hate it but I didn’t!

Copenhagen
The gorgeous Nyhavn area of Copenhagen, definitely a highlight of my visit

Why do you travel?
Because I can. I honestly don’t know. I’m very much a homebody normally but travel just excites me in a way nothing else has

What is your most ideal holiday?
It would probably combine my love of history and architecture. It would be a combination of doing heaps of things with a few days of relaxing in between. If there is train travel in there too, then I’d be pretty happy

Show us your nicest holiday photo!
After a lot of consideration I think I have to go with this photo that I took whilst on driving the Queen Charlotte Sound drive at the top of NZ’s South Island. I really just love this scene.

Marlborough Sound
The absolutely stunning Queen Charlotte Sound in New Zealand

Have you picked up any phrases from travelling?
Not really

What two places would you not go back to and why?
Honestly there are places that I didn’t like but there are no places I wouldn’t go back to. The first time I went to Melbourne I hated it, now it’s one of my favourite cities. Just because I didn’t like somewhere on the first visit doesn’t mean I’m going to write it off

Your dream travel companion?
I am going to go with Prince Harry – he’s been to some pretty amazing places & I reckon he’d be a lot of fun to travel with

Most surreal travel moment?
Walking up the stairs from the tube station into Piccadilly Square my first time in London. My entire body seemed to be screaming “I’M IN LONDON BITCHES!!” .. I could not stop smiling

London
I was as giddy as a school girl when I first went to Piccadilly Square – no, literally!

Where have you travelled to that you would love to travel again?
I would really love to go back to Washington DC, Philadelphia, Alaska and Hamburg – I didn’t get enough time in any of those places and felt a little hard done by haha

You’re leaving tomorrow, money is no object where are you going?
Round the world trip to visit all seven continents. Obviously the amount of time I’m away for would be no object either!

Preferred method of travel; planes, trains or cars?
Trains – you can sit back and watch the scenery fly past

Favourite travel website?
Probably Booking.com – I’m always looking for the best accommodation deals

Can you recite your passport number from memory if asked?
Every time I have to write my passport number down, I think “I really should know this off by heart”.. so no, I can’t recite it 😀

Do you prefer the Window, Aisle, or Middle seat?
Window on the left-hand side – I’m not picky!

Sydney
And this is why the window seat is always a good idea!!

How do you pass the time on the air plane?
Watch the entertainment & sleep

Most memorable experience abroad?
I think travelling with my sister in England – that was pretty damn cool. Or travelling with my nieces in Hawaii – we had the best freaking time! We so need to do it again!!!

Advice for those who want to travel but think they can’t?
Never say never. You never know when an opportunity will present itself

Travel accessory you always pack?
Powerboard – best travel advice I ever received was to take a powerboard with me so you can charge multiple things at once

Hostel or hotel?
Either – I would have to have my own room at the hostel though – I don’t share well with others!

Are you a repeat visitor or do you explore new places?
I do a bit of both – for example I’m doing my 4th visit to England soon but other than London, I haven’t been to any of the other places I’ve visiting. I figure, if you like a place what’s wrong with going back again and again?

Yarra
Melbourne & the Yarra River – despite hating Melbourne at first, it is now my most visited city after my own hometown

Do you read up on your destination for culture, history or safety or do you wing it?
I tend to do a bit of research on the place I’m going – areas to avoid etc

Where would you recommend a friend to visit? City and why?
Definitely London – it’s an easy city to get around. There is loads to do whether you’re into history or art. I think it’s the best destination for anyone – from first time traveller to someone whose been around the block a few times

Favourite landmark you have visited?
Eiffel Tower definitely!

Eiffel Tower
The very captivating Eiffel Tower

So many places but at the top of the list would be Jordan, Malta and more of Germany

What accent in the world is your favourite to hear?
Scottish – I just love the Scots!

  1. I would do this Q/A, but at this point in time, it would be kind of boring since I’ve only ventured outside my country to Canada, and it was only for 2 days. Maybe after my upcoming trip… 🙂
