This is a bit of a different post from what I normally post but I think it fits quite nicely to my recent weekend away, so here you go – The Adventures of the ‘Famous Person’ Jacket told from the perspective of the jacket…
My owner first came across me in the sales rack at Macy’s in New York City in November 2012. She wasn’t going to get me but her niece, Stacy encouraged her to so suddenly I was owned by a Kiwi girl living in Australia and winging my way to Brisbane to start a new life.
Over the past couple years I’ve been brought out occasionally: a friend’s wedding, a couple of days at work but it wasn’t really until a drizzly day in Sydney in April 2014 that I really came out of the closet (literally).
Here’s the story so far:
Saturday, 12th April 2014 – Sydney
It was my first time in Sydney but I come from NYC so it’s not like I didn’t know what to expect from a big city, but it was still exciting to be there. My owner and I were up and out of our Randwick hotel early walking down the road to the University of New South Wales (UNSW) with her friend Marey. We were on our way to meet a famous person – my first famous person! It was a bit exciting to be honest.
The day was a bit drizzly and not the warmest but my bright colour looked pretty cheerful as we made our way into the uni and met up with my owners other friends. We lined up to get our photo and autograph tokens and soon it was time to meet this fella called Benedict Cumberbatch – apparently he’s a big deal.
Tuesday, 6th May 2014 – London
My owner had become obsessed with the BBC show Sherlock earlier in the year and, as above, had already met one of the main stars. She was heading to London for a couple of weeks and found out that one of her favourite actors from the show was doing a play in London whilst she was there. Of course it would be rude of her not to head to the Stage Door after the play and get a photo of us with Moriarty himself, or Andrew Scott as he likes to be known.
My owner gushed to friends (and well anyone that would listen) that Andrew was one of the loveliest people she had ever met.
Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th September 2014 – Brisbane
Oz Comic Con – it was the first time that Oz Comic Con had been in Brisbane and they certainly started with a bang. Orlando freaking Bloom! I think my excitement for this moment matched my owners. But he wasn’t the only person we met that weekend in early September 2014, oh no… there were plenty of photo opportunities to be had over these two days.
Friday, 19th September 2014 – Brisbane
My owner is a clutz. This is not really news to those who know her. She often falls up steps or falls down steps, or just plain falls over her own feet. Her favourite band, American Authors about 70 other people were about to find out just how much of a clutz she really was.
My owner’s niece, Adele had somehow managed to score tickets to meet the band before their concert and my owner was super excited about it. So it made sense that she met them in her own special way – by falling over in front of them. Yep, my owner is a classy one that’s for sure. It was still one of the best nights of her life though and American Authors were of course amazing.
Sunday, 24th May 2015 – Sydney
Now to the most recent of our outings. It’s been a wee while, and other than a night out to my owner’s great niece, Brooke’s 21st (who totally looks like she should be famous person), it has been the closet for me.
That was until my owner found out that actors from one of her favourite TV shows of all time, Supernatural, were visiting Australia for the All Hell Breaks Loose VI fan convention at UNSW. Yes, we were going back to Sydney!
Admittedly my owner was a bit reluctant to take me with her. She asked her friends if it was a little cheesy wearing me each time she met someone famous. They responded that of course it was cheesy and that was the whole point. Not sure if that was an insult or a backhanded compliment, but hey I’ve met loads of famous people over the last 13 months, so who am I to complain.
So, as you can see, my owner and I have been on a plethora of adventures since coming into each other’s lives. I’m sure we have many more adventures ahead of us. After all, we’re heading off to London again very shortly.
Stay tuned for more exciting adventures!
