The A-Z of Me :)

Ok so I discovered this on Around The Globe With Kat’s blog who discovered it on A Dangerous Business – which happens to be one of my favourite travel blogs… so I thought “hey, I might as well give it a go”… so here goes.. the A-Z of Me!

A: AGE YOU WENT ON YOUR FIRST INTERNATIONAL TRIP:
I was old!  Well not ‘old’ old.. but old. I was about 27/28 when I when I went on my first overseas trip and that was to Tasmania.  Believe me, from New Zealand to Tasmania isn’t that much of a leap but I got a stamp in my passport so that’s all that matters!

B: BEST (FOREIGN) BEER YOU’VE HAD AND WHERE:
I don’t really drink much at all but if I had to choose it would be Heineken

C: CUISINE (FAVORITE):
Nothing beats a good old Kiwi Lamb Roast

D: DESTINATIONS, FAVOURITE, LEAST FAVOURITE AND WHY:
Favourite Destinations: Well London of course – if you haven’t figured that out by my other posts, there’s something wrong!, NZ too – yes I am from here but there is so much I haven’t seen but what I have is pretty darn amazing.  Also Alaska – from what I saw of it, I really, really loved it!

Least Favourite Destinations: Well I wasn’t too fond of Vietnam – it was ok but I wouldn’t rush back, NYC didn’t really inspire me too much at the time but once I returned home I had a new appreciation for it. I think Paris would actually be my least favourite though – I just found it completely overrated and did not see what all the fuss was about.  Though the Eiffel Tower was something amazing to behold!

E: EVENT YOU EXPERIENCED ABROAD THAT MADE YOU SAY “WOW”:
A couple – seeing the inside of St Pauls Cathedral in London was a massive ‘Wow’ moment for me.  I had wanted to go for so long and it was truly an awe-inspiring sight. The other ‘wow’ moment I’ve had was seeing the Hubbard Glacier in Alaska. It was a dreadful day, raining & freezing but nothing prepared me for the size and magnitude of that place.  It was just purely stunning!

F: FAVORITE MODE OF TRANSPORTATION:
Well I do like flying – though I like airports more than the ‘flying’ part but I am really looking forward to heading back to the UK and using their train system more as I have discovered a real desire to travel by trains lately.

G: GREATEST FEELING WHILE TRAVELING:
Arriving!

H: HOTTEST PLACE YOU’VE TRAVELED TO:
Vietnam. It was extremely humid – I live in Brisbane in Australia where it gets pretty hot in summer but Vietnam was on another level.

I: INCREDIBLE SERVICE YOU’VE EXPERIENCED AND WHERE:
Easy – Clyst St George in Devon, England.  The people there could not have been more welcoming to my sister & I.  It was a real pleasure to be able to meet the people there.

J: JOURNEY THAT TOOK THE LONGEST:
Brisbane to London in May 2014 – Brisbane > Melbourne > Abu Dhabi > London – plus we got delayed in Abu Dhabi for about 15 hours.  I leave Brisbane 6.55pm local time on a Saturday night and finally arrived in London about 48 hours later…. it was a long journey!

K: KEEPSAKE FROM YOUR TRAVELS:
I am terrible.. I like to get pens, magnets, postcards etc but then I get home and wish I had bought more.  On a trip to NYC I didn’t realise until I got home that I had actually got myself no souvenirs!  At least I had my photos!

L: LET-DOWN SIGHT, WHY AND WHERE:
Um.. honestly I don’t think there has been a sight where I have gone “you know what, this does not live up to the hype”.  Closest I got was probably Versailles, only because it was very ostentatious and not my style at all.

M: MOMENT WHERE YOU FELL IN LOVE WITH TRAVEL:
London – haha could it have been anywhere else! London changed me in so many ways and it made me realise that the world is there to be seen.

N: NICEST HOTEL YOU’VE STAYED IN:
Um.. I honestly haven’t really stayed anywhere luxurious.  The lobby of the Chateau Victoria Hotel & Suites, in Victoria Canada was pretty darn nice & the reason I chose to stay there!

O: OBSESSION—WHAT ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH TAKING PICTURES OF WHILE TRAVELING?:
Buildings.  I love architecture so I love taking photos of buildings

P: PASSPORT STAMPS, HOW MANY AND FROM WHERE?
New Zealand, Australia, Brunei, Vietnam, USA, Canada, Paris, England, New Caledonia, UAE… um I think that’s it at the moment

Q: QUIRKIEST ATTRACTION YOU’VE VISITED AND WHERE:
Not so much quirky but definitely cool – Miniature World in Victoria, Canada – it was well worth the $12 entry fee!

R: RECOMMENDED SIGHT, EVENT OR EXPERIENCE:
As much as it is crazy and should be avoided, I think that everyone should see Times Square at least once in their life! Another must see place in my opinion would have to be Pearl Harbor.  It was a very moving place to visit.

S: SPLURGE; SOMETHING YOU HAVE NO PROBLEM FORKING OVER MONEY FOR WHILE TRAVELING:
Hmmm.. honestly not really sure.  I am not a backpacker by any means so I guess accommodation would be on that list. Oh and I am not the kind of person who would fly via 15 different places to get to my destination just to save a few bucks.

T: TOURISTY THING YOU’VE DONE:
Hop on Hop off buses.. I’ve been addicted to them ever since I did one in Bath.  I love them, they are completely tourist traps but just so darn awesome!

U: UNFORGETTABLE TRAVEL MEMORY:
Seeing Greenwich Naval College for the first time.  I will never forget that feeling I had standing there looking at those buildings

V: VISAS, HOW MANY AND FOR WHERE?
USA & Vietnam.. though technically living in Australia as a Kiwi I am on a special visa so lets count that too 🙂

W: WINE, BEST GLASS OF WINE WHILE TRAVELING AND WHERE?
I don’t drink wine so can’t answer this question

X: EXCELLENT VIEW AND FROM WHERE?:
Top of the Rock in NYC – seeing the Empire State Building from there was amazing – plus it is my best photo ever (in my opinion)

Y: YEARS SPENT TRAVELING?:
I haven’t packed my bags and gone ‘travelling’ but my first overseas trip was about 15 years ago and since about 2010 I have been overseas each year so we’ll leave it at that shall we 🙂

Z: ZEALOUS SPORTS FANS AND WHERE?:
Well Kiwi’s are pretty passionate about their rugby, I haven’t been to any sporting event other than rugby games but I remember being in England watching the English play the All Blacks and that was pretty special.  Would love to go to footlball game in England – I don’t like the game but I reckon that would be pretty amazing!
